The 22nd Hula O Na Keiki, the only children's hula competition on Maui, is set for Nov. 9 to 11at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel.
This weekend competition will commemorate one of Hawaii's richest traditions, and it features hula students from around the world.
Children ages 5 to 17 will compete as soloists and as boy and girl pairs. They must be interviewed by judges in their proficiency in Hawaiian language and their appropriateness of costume as well as do both kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) dance categories. Nearly $17,000 will be awarded in cash and prizes this year.

To complement the keiki hula competition, weekend festivities at the hotel will include arts and crafts from all islands, cultural and hula workshops, canoe rides by Hui o Waa Kaulua, and Hawaiian entertainment.
This weekend of festivities is a colorful showcase for Hawaiian culture that is not to be missed. Top it off with the award-winning Sunday champagne brunch show.
