Wednesday exhibitor application deadline

October 14, 2012
The Maui News

The Maui County Office on Aging is accepting applications for table exhibits at the 11th annual Family Caregivers Conference Nov. 14 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

The event, with the theme of "Family Caregivers Matter," is to run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The deadline to register for exhibit space is Wednesday.

"It's vitally important to support family caregivers on Maui by providing training, information and access to resources," said event coordinator Norma Circle in a news release.

The National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP conducted a survey and found that there are more than 65 million family caregivers nationwide. These people play a major role in maximizing the health and quality of life of individuals with acute and chronic illnesses, according to the release.

The conference will include information, resources and training for Alzheimer's and other dementias, strength and balance tips, depression and substance abuse in older adults, and legal issues.

Nonprofits and government agencies will be given exhibit space preference. If space permits, consideration also will be given to businesses that apply. Space is otherwise first come, first served.

Applications are available online at www.mauicountyadrc.org or via email at norma.circle@mauicounty.gov. For more information, call the Office on Aging at 270-7755.
