The Maui High School boys bowling team dealt Baldwin its first match loss of the Maui Interscholastic League season on Saturday at Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku, and St. Anthony won in a sweep to remain in contention for a title.
The Sabers beat the Bears 2-1, getting a 168 from Trent Hori, a 164 from Codey Kuhaulua and a 153 from Brendan Baker. Maui High finishes its season 17-7.
Tyler Yamasaki's 166 was the top score for Baldwin (18-3). Jaylen Kama-Cabanting had a 161, and Jong Choi a 133.
Michael Fernandez had a 157 and Chaz Fernandez a 156 for St. Anthony in its 3-0 victory over Lahainaluna. Christian Altura-Taal had a 134 for the Trojans (15-6), who will face the Bears next week in the final match of the regular season. Royce Rosenthal had a 153 for the Lunas (4-17), Tyler Ihu had a 139 and Calen Matsuda a 116.
The Baldwin girls, who had already clinched a league championship, beat Maui High 3-0 to improve to 21-0. Brooke Higa and Janiesse Palafox each had 178 games for the Bears, and Chelsea Kado-kawa had a 161. The Sabers (8-16) got a 130 from Precious Texeira, a 129 from Stephanie Imada and a 123 from Jessica Saki.
St. Anthony clinched second place with a 3-0 win over Lahainaluna. Sloan Becraft had the top score for the Trojans (14-7), a 142, and Rachael Lallo had a 111. Terra Miller had a 131 for the Lunas (8-13), while Brittany Treu and Kailiann Tuipulotu each had 102 games.
