Candidate not complying with business regulation

October 16, 2012
The Maui News

I received a pamphlet supporting Carmen "Hulu" Lindsey, advertising her statewide "Friend-Raisers" and also stating her current and previous employment. Two in particular, Kahulu Productions and Kahulu's Protea Farm, listed Hulu as owner.

Recently on Facebook, I read that Lindsey's businesses were not registered with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Researching on my own, using hawaii.gov., that statement was reconfirmed.

I was under the impression, and forgive me if I am wrong, that all businesses being operated in Hawaii needed to be registered with the DCCA.

Then I think, "Is this someone, I would want to vote for? Someone who does not comply with Hawaii's business requirements?" I think not.

This situation, along with the broken promise that she would not run for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Maui trustee seat, convinces me as well as many others I have spoken to that our vote will not go to Hulu Lindsey. Believe me when I say I am not a hater. I just want to vote for someone who, among other things, is honest with what he or she prints and keeps his or her promises.
