The humpback whales are back in Maui waters.
On Monday, the Pacific Whale Foundation reported that its Ocean Voyager saw a humpback whale at 9 a.m. about 4 miles outside of Maalaea Harbor.
On Tuesday at 7:38 a.m., the captain, crew and passengers aboard one of Maui Adventure Cruises vessels spotted what they believed was a single juvenile humpback whale 2.7 miles off of Lahaina.
The reports are some of the first sightings of humpback whales in Maui waters this whale season.
The sightings are not the first in the state. On Aug. 31, an apparently healthy juvenile humpback whale was spotted north of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.
Humpback whale season in Hawaii generally runs from November through May, although whales may be spotted during other months.
