Mahalo to The Maui News for the in-depth coverage of the South Maui House race. I am honored that Kaniela Ing considers me his friend and is willing to expose the dirty campaign tactics of George Fontaine and the Republican Party.
They attacked my staff at the Legislature with half-truths that proved to be false, and he sent out a mean-spirited postcard with my hapless friend's awful mug shot and accused me of supporting child molesters. That same winning strategy is being used against Mr. Ing.
The voters know the difference between Ing's leadership and Fontaine's raw ambition. Fontaine's antics in the Legislature included appointing himself the chairman of the cybercrime committee of one. His proposals created new crimes that included criminalizing people watching cockfights.
Ing has not only literally gone to every house in Kihei, he has the right attitude about serving the public. He has a clear vision of engaging our community in developing a preferred future for South Maui.
I encourage folks to ignore the mudslinging and take a good look at the true future of Kihei as a town within a park. Kaniela Ing can.
