A fired Maui County liquor control officer is alleging liquor control officers overlooked violations and received free food, drinks and gifts from liquor establishments they were charged with inspecting, in a lawsuit against Maui County and four Department of Liquor Control employees.
In the complaint filed Friday in 2nd Circuit Court, Justin Dobbs alleges he faced retaliation after reporting violations and was fired in August 2011.
Honolulu attorney Venetia Carpenter-Asui filed the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages.
County spokesman Rod Antone said the county's Department of the Corporation Counsel was preparing a response.
