A lawsuit filed by a former deputy prosecutor against Maui County was dismissed when a judge ruled in favor of the county Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Honolulu.
Jacki Jura had been a deputy prosecutor for approximately one year before being terminated from her job for poor performance in 2007, according to the county. Jura's lawsuit, filed in May 2011 in federal court, alleged she was discriminated against based on gender, disability and pregnancy and also alleged she was exposed to a hostile working environment.
In addition to the county, Jura's lawsuit named former Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Acob and former Deputy Prosecutor Marie Kosegarten as defendants.
In the ruling Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway found that all of Jura's claims were without merit and granted summary judgment to the county, Acob and Kosegarten.
"It was a nice vindication both for the county and for Ben Acob and Marie Kosegarten," said Deputy Corporation Counsel Richard B. Rost, who represented the county and Acob.
Kosegarten was represented by Joachim Cox, Robert Fricke and Kamala Haake of the Honolulu law fire Cox Fricke. Jura was represented by William Deeley and John Winnicki of the Honolulu law firm Deeley King Pang & Van Etten.
