Unoccupied Haiku house burns; no injuries reported

October 22, 2012
The Maui News

More than half of an unoccupied home on Haiku Road burned Monday afternoon, Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said.

Firefighters from Paia, Makawao and Kahului responded to the 3:21 p.m. alarm of a fire at 460 Haiku Road, Mainaga said. When firefighters arrived, they found most of the 2,000-square-foot wooden structure in flames. The blaze was contained at 4:09 p.m.

No injuries were reported, and no one was displaced because no one lived at the residence, Mainaga said.

A fire inspector was sent to the scene to investigate the fire's cause.
