Unoccupied home on Haiku Road burns

More than half of an unoccupied home on Haiku Road burned Monday afternoon, Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said.

Firefighters from Paia, Makawao and Kahului responded to the 3:21 p.m. alarm of a fire at 460 Haiku Road, Mainaga said. When firefighters arrived, they found most of the 2,000-square-foot wooden structure in flames. The blaze was contained at 4:09 p.m. and extinguished at 6:02 p.m.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $200,000 to the structure, and $10,000 to its contents.
