Peaceful conflict resolvers are worth celebrating

October 24, 2012
The Maui News

In addition to the many important causes that October observes, let's not overlook International Conflict Resolution Day, which has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 2005.

Many people are still unaware that there are alternatives to the adversarial processes and that many parties can reach mutually agreeable resolutions to conflicts using collaborative processes. Mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching and arbitration are just a few of the alternative dispute resolution processes that are available to you and our community.

Whether it is conflict in the workplace, within a family, with a neighbor or in our community, contacting a professional mediator to help you resolve your issue can bring peace and resolution.

Whether the conflict is simple or complex, instead of ignoring it or engaging in litigation, remember that mediators and alternative dispute resolution professionals are trained in processes designed to problem solve and create real solutions. And these processes are both cost-effective and timely.

Celebrate with me the significant contributions that peaceful conflict resolvers have brought to our community and the world at large.
