Any attempts to attend every crazy Halloween event on Maui would likely turn one into the walking dead. When it comes Halloween, Maui is a non-stop seven day party from Paia to the Barmuda Triangle to Front Street. I'm certain I must have left something out but here is my best effort to cover every possible ghoulish entertainment extravaganza.
You can kick start your Halloween tonight at Casanova's in Makawao for the annual famed, wild and wicked "Erotica Slam Poetry and Costume Ball." Event promoter Ellen Peterson warns, as always, "come as kinky as you dare, a Halloween-inspired erotic playground awaits you." Poets, spoken word artists, and actors of all levels are all invited to perform original works of art of three minutes or less and compete for a $100 cash prize. Contestants must sign up at the door by 9:45 p.m. to perform.
Mistress of ceremonies, Terez Amato hosts the evening of eclectic entertainment which also includes hot dance performances, the Maui "Thriller" zombie dancers, naughty live body painting, and a costume parade. There will also be bizarre erotica visuals by Douglas Deboer. The show starts at 10 p.m., but get there early if you want a seat as the event is always a standing room affair. Tickets are available at the door only for $10, 21 and over only.

The following night celebrate "Ghoulin Rouge: Cirque de Freak," a chic Halloween fundraising event to benefit the children of the Montessori School of Maui. The event will feature live and silent auctions, food and beverages and a costume contest. You'll have to keep the kids at home for this one though as the party is for adults, 21 and over only.
The all-inclusive event will happen on the Montessori campus in Makawao from 6 to 10 p.m.. Tickets are $85. For more information or reservations call 984-3261.
Also on Friday night, the Maui Aids Foundation will host a 21 and over fundraiser, "Wicked," at Three's Bar and Grill in Kihei. There will be dancing from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. featuring the Maui "Thriller" dancers, DJ Del Sol, plus a costume contest and door prizes. If you're looking for something more theatrical there are two scary shows to choose from this weekend. King Kekaulike High presents "Salem's Daughter," by Craig Sodaro (see review), through Sunday, Oct. 28. "Salem's Daughter," may be too scary for young children. In the Steppingstone Playhouse at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, MAPA opens "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, directed by David C. Johnston. Shakespeare's dark tale of witches and murder opens Friday and will run at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays The impressive local cast includes Will Makozak in the title role, Beth Williams as Lady Macbeth, Brian Connolly, Angie Carr, Kristi Scott, Hoku Pavao Jones, Jett Batoon, Derek Nakagawa, Kalani Whitford and Ricky Jones.

DivaDeva and Next Level will present a Halloween Costume Ball at the Historic Iao Theater. After the stunning success of their Masquerade Ball in June this popular production duo returns Saturday for a Halloween-themed bash. Entertainment includes the amazing Ultraviolets, fresh from the World Body Painting Awards in Austria where they finished fifth in the world. Special guests include the Maui Roller Girls and DJ Paul Gotel's after show dance party right on the Iao stage. There will also be special effects and spooky projections by Fuzzbox Productions.
The previous ball was a sell out and people had to be turned away, so it is advised that guests arrive early. Doors open at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m., dancing 9 to 11 p.m., and costumes are encouraged. Alcohol is not permitted and all bags will be subject to search. Tickets are $20, $30 or $45 for VIP seating. There will be an extra $5 per ticket charge on the day of the event. Also on Saturday night, Three's Bar and Grill promises the most "raging Halloween party in town" with DJ's C.I.A and Del Sol. The entire restaurant and patio will be open for mingling. A second bar will be added to accommodate the expected crowd and both bars will feature bloody and smoking cocktails. A complementary photo booth will be in place while you're waiting in line. Island Status will present its models and dancers, plus performance art shows throughout the night. A Best Dressed Monster contest wins a $100 gift certificate to Three's, and all this and more for no cover.
If you happen to be headed to Honolulu you can catch Maui's own Kit Kat Club Cabaret performing at the 5th annual "Hallowballoo Music + Arts Festival" in the China Town Arts District of Honolulu, Saturday, Octo and Sunday. This Halloween weekend street festival is Hawaii's largest music showcase boasting 40 plus bands, DJ's, and theatrical groups. This year's "Hallowballoo" features four outdoor stages and Hawaii's top performance artists for 12 hours of non-stop free entertainment. For more information visit hallowballoo.com.
On Sunday the fourth annual "Rocktober" returns to the Iao Theater. "Phantom of Rocktober" happens Oct. 28 through 31. The nightly free Halloween festivities include a Sunday night screening of "the Ghost and Mr. Chicken," starring Don Knotts at 6:30 p.m. with complementary keiki face painting by Rachael Deboer and free candy for all children in costume.
On Monday, Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" screens at 7 p.m. and on Tuesday catch an encore showing of the "Haunted Collector" Iao Theater episode and screening of the original silent version of "The Phantom of the Opera," staring Lon Chaney at 7 p.m.
In addition the "Thriller" zombie dancers will perform each night and on Wednesday, Halloween night. The annual "Rocky Horror Picture Show" party screens at 9 p.m., doors at 8 p.m. Twelve dollar "Rocky" party packs (toast, hats, gloves, glow lights, noisemakers, etc.) will be available at the theater. If you're still standing after all that there are two street fairs to choose from as well on Wednesday night. "Halloween in Lahaina" begins at 4:30 in the afternoon with the annual children's costume parade and continues until 11:30 p.m. Expect about three thousand revelers that come ever year to see and be seen and enjoy the sounds of live bands and street performances in historic Lahaina town. "Halloween in Paia" begins at 5 p.m. with store front trick-or-treating for the keiki, and continues until 11 p.m. with music in the streets and additional club events at the Paia bars and nightclubs.

Catch Canadian-Indian comedian and actor, Russell Peters in performance at the Castle Theater at 8 p.m. on Friday. Peters' "Notorious World Tour 2012" has been selling out houses from Australia, England, The United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Singapore, South Africa, Norway, India, the Philippines, America and Canada. Seabury Hall presents a tale of the early days of radio in the Midwest, with "The Voice of the Prairie," by John Olive, directed by Sally Sefton. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 26 through Nov. 3 and at 3 p.m. Sunday Nov. 4 in the A'ali'ikuhonua Creative Arts Center at Seabury Hall in Makawao.
