I filed as candidate for County Council Upcountry because of the Upcountry water meter priority list. For years, I have tracked this issue and recorded comments and suggestions on www.umla.ws (or Google "Pohle water meters").
But I am not just a one-issue candidate, although living Upcountry that is my area of expertise. It should also be my opponent's expertise. The 30-year meter list issue is a microcosm of what is wrong with Maui County government - excessive regulation, missed opportunities, misinformation, overzealous rule enforcement, administration inaction where it has authority, rules that make no sense, distrust and rejection of private investment, unclear laws inviting lawsuits, mistreatment of Maui's most vulnerable citizens, treating issues separately rather than viewing Maui as a whole.
During this campaign, I have responded to every questionnaire in detail including Kanu, Maui Realtors and The Maui News. I attended every debate I was invited to, responded to all requests for interviews, authored letters, have taken positions on controversial topics (i.e., Superferry, Kihei malls, environmental courts, overregulation, lawsuits), and have expanded the scope of my website from water to include all my views and responses. To know my governing philosophy, you need only read my website.
As a physics Ph.D., I will bring technical expertise and a scientific approach to the council. On unfamiliar issues, I will be a quick study. I will ask for input but will expect technical consistency. I am a scientist, not a politician. I ask for your vote.
