The Maui News

This year's Maui Interscholastic League's girls volleyball champions received No. 3 seeds in the New City Nissan State Championships, which begin Tuesday on Oahu.

Kamehameha Maui (14-0) was seeded third in the Division I tournament, and will play a quarterfinal match Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday's meeting between Kamehameha Kapalama (13-3) and Kalani (11-5).

Seabury Hall (12-1), the No. 3 seed in Division II, will play on Wednesday against the winner of a match between Hawaii Baptist (12-3) and Hawaii Prep (13-5).

Kamehameha Maui placed fourth at last year's tournament.

The MIL teams playing Tuesday will face No. 1 seeds and defending champions if they advance.

King Kekaulike (8-6) will meet Moanalua (12-4), with the winner going into a match against Punahou (15-1). Hana (10-3), the only MIL team to beat Seabury this season and in the tournament for the first time since 2005, will face Kaimuki (5-10) for the right to play Saint Francis (13-1).
