I am confused by an Oct. 24 letter to the editor from a Mazie Hirono supporter attacking Linda Lingle by claiming that she "did not win the governorship on her own merits. She won by a fluke because her opponent was tarnished with scandal."
Of course, we all know who her opponent was in the 2002 election for governor - Hirono.
I don't recall any scandal being associated with Hirono, so either I am losing my memory or the letter writer doesn't know what he is talking about.
