Five-set victory sends Hana to quarterfinals

Hana High School advanced to the quarterfinal round of the New City Nissan Girls Volleyball Division II State Championship with a 26-28, 25-18, 27-25, 19-25, 15-10 win over Kaimuki on Tuesday at the Kalani Gym.

The Dragons, making their first state-tournament appearance since 2005, will play top-seeded St. Francis, the defending state champion, today at Kalani.

King Kekaulike was sent to the Division I consolation bracket, losing 25-12, 25-15, 25-19 to Mo-analua at the McKinley Gym.

Kamehameha Maui, the No. 3 seed in D-I, received a bye to the quarterfinals and will play Kamehameha Kapalama today at Kaimuki - Kamehameha Kapalama swept Kalani 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 on Tuesday. Seabury Hall, seeded third in D-II, plays a quarterfinal today at Farrington against Hawaii Prep, a 25-21, 24-26, 28-26, 25-20 winner over Hawaii Baptist Academy on Tuesday.

Pakalani Helekahi-Cass had 28 kills, two aces and a block for Hana (11-3). Brandy Lecker-Tolentino had 10 kills and seven blocks.

Amako Kinere had 13 kills from Kaimuki (5-11).

Taylor Fernandez had 11 kills for King Kekaulike (8-7), sent to an elimination match today against Castle, which lost 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 to Mililani on Tuesday. Na Alii's Kayla Uyesugi had 12 digs, and Kaila Aguera had two aces.

Moanalua, which improved its record to 13-4, got 14 kills and four blocks from Analise Austin. Joy Kurosawa had eight aces.
