October 31, 2012
The Maui News

Duke's Beach House recently donated $1,400 to Feed My Sheep, a local nonprofit organization that provides food to those in need. The donation is part of the restaurant's Legacy of Aloha program that supports local organizations through specially created menus, events and employee donations. Funds for the donation were raised through the restaurant's nightly Duke's Tasting Menu from July through September.

"We're proud to support such a terrific organization," said Duke's Beach House General Manager Shaughn Helliar. "Feed My Sheep serves 100,000 meals every month, and everyone here at Duke's definitely knows how much work that involves."

In addition to the monetary donation, a number of Duke's employees volunteered each week with Feed My Sheep from July through September.

From October through December, a portion of Tasting Menu proceeds will benefit Movember, a nonprofit organization that helps raise awareness for men's health issues.

Founded in 1999 by Joyce Kawakami, Feed My Sheep is a mobile food distribution program that drives trucks into Maui neighborhoods to feed the hungry. The organization currently provides weekly distributions in Hana, Haiku, Honokowai, Kihei, Lahaina and Wailuku.
