The Seabury Hall girls volleyball team got a pep talk from a visiting college coach and a superb hitting performance by setter Gabby Ratte in Wednesday's sweep of Hawaii Prep in the quarterfinals of the New City Nissan Girls State Division II?Tournament at Farrington High School.
The scores were 25-17, 25-21, 25-14.
"It was really great to see the girls come out focused," said Spartans coach Scottie Zucco. "We couldn't ask for anything more."
A couple of hours before the match, University of California, Santa Barbara coach Kathy Gregory spoke to the Seabury Hall team. The Gauchos will face Hawaii tonight.
"Kathy Gregory talked to the girls and it fired us up," Zucco said of the 10-minute talk. "They had their mouths wide open, listening to everything she was saying."
Ratte, a sophomore, had 12 kills and 27 assists for the No. 3-seeded Spartans.

"Gabby Ratte was getting a lot of kills," Zucco said. "When you have a setter who can dump or spike, it can freeze opponents for sets to the middle."
Seabury Hall's Regal Deen-Jackson had nine kills and Amy Ozee added eight. Kiki Leuteneker had five blocks and Deen-Jackson added four.
Tiana Reynolds had 12 kills to lead Hawaii Prep (14-6).
Seabury Hall (13-1) will face No. 2 seed Farrington in the semifinals today at 7 p.m. at Kalani.
NO. 1 SEED ST. FRANCIS 3, HANA 0: At Kalani, Angel Savea and Alyssa Panis each had 10 kills as the Saints (14-1) beat the Dragons (11-4) 27-25, 25-16, 25-19.
Pakalana Helekahi-Cass and Jaynalee Hoopai each had nine kills for Hana.
Hana will play Waimea today at 5 p.m. at Farrington.

Kamehameha Kapalama 3, No. 3 seed Kamehameha Maui 0: At Kaimuki, Pikake Laumauna had 12 kills and Pomai Recca added 11 as Kamehameha Kapalama (15-3) swept Kamehameha Maui (14-1) 25-15, 25-13, 25-20.
Kamehameha Maui's Sienna Rae Davis had nine kills and Leimana Kane added five. Bobbi Lin Kalama had 18 assists and two aces, and Taylor Awai had 14 digs.
Kamehameha Maui will play Pearl City today at 7 p.m. at Kaimuki.
