Please vote tomorrow

November 5, 2012
The Maui News

Tomorrow is Election Day 2012. Nationally, we'll be selecting a president and a vice president for the next four years. In Hawaii, we'll be voting for a new United States senator to replace the retiring Sen. Daniel Akaka.

We'll also be selecting two members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Maui's representative - coming from the 2nd Congressional District - will be brand new. The winner Tuesday will replace the incumbent, Mazie Hirono, who is vying for the Senate seat.

In Maui County, we'll be voting for members of the state House and state Senate. All nine seats on the County Council will be on the ballot and there will be at least two new members since Joe Pontanilla and Danny Mateo face term limits and will not be on the ballot.

Residents will also face 11 proposed amendments to the Maui County Charter.

All in all, there are a lot of important questions on tomorrow's ballot. It will be well worth your time to go to your polling place and vote.

If you wish to do some last-minute homework on the state and local races, The Maui News' General Election Guide is available on our website - mauinews.com. On the left side of the home page is a button marked "Elections 2012 - Meet the Candidates." Clicking on that button will take you to a convenient flip-book version of the election guide.

Remember, important decisions will be made tomorrow. The only way your voice will be heard is if you vote.
