What’s the hurry? Drivers need to slow down

November 5, 2012
The Maui News

I want to try again to find someone who is concerned about the traffic on this island. It seems that everyone is in such a hurry to go somewhere they forget they live on a island. So you go around and around.

What's so hard to get out of bed 10 minutes early? That way you would be on time.

I have been at the Kahului Airport from 1967 to now and it's stupid how fast and careless drivers are speeding about 35 miles per hour or maybe faster in a 15-mph zone. You have people with baggage and small children trying to cross the walkway with cars less than 2 feet from them.

Recently I saw a state firetruck run the red light and almost hit a group of passengers trying to cross the road. There was no reason for that to happen. We have to start somewhere and control traffic and crazy drivers.
