He's just been named one of the Rising Star Chefs of Hawaii and will be honored at the Halekulani on Oahu Dec. 4.
But he's most famous for being a key member of Chef Masaharu Morimoto's "Iron Chef America" staff, and he went on to run the kitchen as executive chef of Morimoto Waikiki restaurant, located in The Modern hotel.
Now, Jojo Vasquez has joined the culinary team of the Plantation House after coming back to Maui and serving as the chef de cuisine of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua's Banyan Tree Restaurant.

Accolades for Vasquez's work at the Banyan Tree are glowing and numerous, according to Plantation House managing partner Norm Schuhardt, who is pleased to announce the up-and-comer's appointment as executive chef.
He replaces longtime executive chef and partner Alex Stanislaw, who is reportedly starting up his own food and wine blog.
"Plantation House has long been acknowledged as one of Maui's premiere dining locations, receiving world recognition for food, wine, stunning views, and hospitality," says Vasquez.
"I want to dare to inspire, improve and innovate and create memorable dining experiences for visitors and locals alike."
Situated on the Plantation Golf Course with vistas of the ocean and the mountains, the restaurant is open for all-day and evening dining. It's also the home of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, the PGA's first event each year.
"The opportunity to be executive chef of such an incredible property has me very excited," he continues. "The journey begins now and I look forward to the challenges and the rewards of seeing appreciative guests returning to see what we have cooked up for them time after time."
