The Maui News

Three men were arrested Thursday and police are looking for a fourth suspect in an assault last week that hospitalized a 45-year-old Waihee man, police said.

The victim was knocked unconscious in a fight Nov. 2 during a party at his residence on Waiwaiole Place, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said patrol officers went to the home in response to a report of a disorderly fight involving numerous people and found the victim unconscious on the driveway with family members around him.

It was reported that the victim had been attacked and beaten by others who had left the residence before police arrived, Rego said.

He said the victim was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was hospitalized with contusions on the back of his head and a skull fracture.

Police were notified of the extent of the injuries after the victim was released from the hospital Thursday, Rego said, and issued all-points bulletins for the suspects, some of them relatives.

Edwin Akahi, 47, was charged with abuse and second-degree assault and released after posting $2,000 bail. He was arrested at 5:55 p.m. at his residence in Waiehu.

His son, Eddie Akahi-Kahahane, 19, also was charged with abuse and second-degree assault after being arrested at 10:19 p.m. at the same Waiehu residence. Akahi-Kahahane was released after posting $2,000 bail.

A 23-year-old man, arrested at the same time and location as Akahi-Kahahane, was released pending further investigation of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Police are looking for a fourth man suspected of being involved in the assault.
