Less than a week after the general election, Maui County Council members have organized their leadership for the 2013-14 term, choosing Gladys Coelho Baisa as chairwoman and Bob Carroll as vice chairman.
The new term begins Jan. 2.
"The move reflects our commitment to work decisively and to share leadership roles and authority, and thereby accomplish more for our county's people," Baisa said. "With organizational efforts well under way, we intend to hit the ground running."

The chairmen for key council committees include: Council Member Mike White as chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee; Carroll as chairman of the Land Use Committee; Council Member Don Couch as chairman of the Planning Committee; Council Member Mike Victorino as chairman of the Water Resources Committee; and Council Member Riki Hokama as chairman of the Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.
Council Member Elle Cochran will chair the Infrastructure and Environmental Management Committee.
Council Member-elect Stacy Crivello will chair the Committee on Housing, Human Services and Transportation; and Council Member-elect Don Guzman will head the Economic Development, Agriculture, Energy and Recreation Committee.
There will be no General Plan Committee in the upcoming council term.
