I am proud to be the general manager of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. because I have the privilege of working with 800 of the finest people on this island. People who are not only dedicated to ensuring 36,000 acres of Central Maui remains in green agriculture - today and in the future - but also dedicated to making their community a better place in many different ways.
I would like to publicly acknowledge Marc Riglos (The Maui News, Nov. 6), an HC&S electrician, for his volunteer efforts to this community. To help rid Maui's oceans of invasive fish, he put his life literally in danger on Nov. 4, spearfishing in the waters off of Waiehu.
My personal thanks to his dive partner, Kaulana Kaaa, who helped to fend off the attacking shark and get Marc safely to shore, and to the Roi Round-up Tournament leaders and others in the community who have provided generous donations to help Marc.
This sense of community - neighbor helping neighbor - is one that all of us at HC&S embrace, and what we believe makes Maui, Maui. Please join us in rooting for Marc's full and rapid recovery.
