FIRST PHOTO: Kahului Elementary School students try out new hula hoops Wednesday afternoon, courtesy of a grant for play equipment to Maui elementary schools from the Alexander & Baldwin Foundation.

SECOND PHOTO: Mark Zeug, president of the nonprofit Kaho'omiki, adds jump ropes to the bounty of playground equipment unpacked in the cafeteria. The equipment, which includes more than 600 balls, several hundred hula hoops, jump ropes, boundary markers and other athletic items, will be used exclusively in the Fun 5 program for elementary children in the Department of Education's A-Plus after-school program. Kahului, Makawao, Lihikai, Paia, Waihee, Haiku, Pomaikai, Pukalani and Wailuku elementary schools will receive more than $10,000 in equipment from the grant. Fun 5 is a physical activity and nutrition program managed by Kaho'omiki, a Hawaii-based nonprofit organization.
