Hendrickson among five from Maui in Hawaiian Pro’s final 64

Tanner Hendrickson of Haiku cuts back during his Reef Hawaiian Pro second-round heat Friday on Oahu’s North Shore. Hendrickson finished second, earning a spot in the final 64 in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing’s opening event. Four other surfers from Maui are also in the third round — Hana’s Dege O’Connell and Hank Gaskell won their heats, Olamana Eleogram finished second in his and Dusty Payne of Lahaina received a bye into the third round. Granger Larsen of Napili, Billy Kemper of Kuau and Kevin Sullivan of Lahaina were eliminated in the round of 96. Sullivan had advanced through one of the remaining first-round heats earlier in the day.
