Beeman gets first win with UH women

Kamilah Martin had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Hawaii beat Tennessee Martin 73-69 on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu to give Laura Beeman her first victory as coach.

Kanisha Bello scored 11 points, including 3-of-3 shooting from 3-point range for Hawaii (1-1) in the Rainbow Wahine Classic contest.

Pua Kailiawa also scored 11 points and Diane Moore, Ashley Karaitiana and Destiny King each added 10 for UH, which shot 24-of-49 from field.

Beeman was hired in late March to replace Dana Takahara-Dias, who led the team for three seasons. Beeman previously served as an assistant coach at Southern California.

Jasmine Newsome scored 25 points and Heather Butler added 18 for Tennessee?Martin (1-2).

Hawaii plays today against Stanford, ranked fourth in The Associated Press poll.
