KCA's Tuesday meeting to be last of '12

The Kihei Community Association will hold its last meeting of the year at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kihei Charter School, 41 E. Lipoa St.

The meeting will include interviews with newly elected and re-elected county and state officials representing South Maui and the introduction of nominees for the KCA 2013 board of directors.

Donations of nonperishable food donations for the Maui Food Bank will be accepted at the meeting.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for pupu and talk story.

Massachusetts Reunion set for January

A "Massachusetts Reunion" will be held from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at Kamaole Beach Park III.

Participants are encouraged to "bring a Massachusetts potluck dish, wear a Massachusetts, Red Sox, Patriots or Celtics T-shirt and speak Bostonian," according to a news release.

There will be a Massachusetts trivia contest, and prizes will be awarded.

State agency hosting workshop on taxes

The state Department of Taxation will offer a 2012 Year-End Tax Workshop on Dec. 4 in the University of Hawaii Maui College Pilina Building Multi-Purpose Room.

Director of Taxation Fred Pablo and other officials will update attendees on various administrative issues including tax form changes, modernized eFiling, the transient accommodations tax, the status of state tax litigation, temporary administrative rules regarding the renewable energy technologies income tax credit and recommendations under discussion by the Tax Review Commission.

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $80 for people registering by Nov. 27 and $100 for people registering later.

The fee includes continental breakfast, workshop materials and four hours of professional education credit.

DOT announces roadwork around Maui

The state Department of Transportation has announced upcoming and ongoing road closures in East, Central and West Maui areas this week.

* East Maui: There will be a single-lane closure on Hana Highway in the westbound direction between Milepost 10.4, in the vicinity of Garden of Eden, and Milepost 16, in the vicinity of Keanae Peninsula Road, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for road maintenance.

* West Maui: Ongoing ocean erosion repairs will continue on Honoapiilani Highway in the area of Launiupoko State Park, shifting lanes mauka. Speed limits are reduced in the work zone. Motorists are advised to expect delays.

* Central Maui: Maalaea Boat Harbor Road will remain closed from the south Honoapiilani Highway entrance to Hauoli Road through the end of November for the construction of waterlines, sewer lines and a water treatment facility.
