While watching the County Council meeting on Akaku recently I was astounded to see Council Member Mike White proposing a total ban on alcohol in all county parks and recreational facilities.
Is this something that even merits consideration by the council members? The argument that there have been problems caused by intoxicated park users is weak and shows a clear disconnect by the council member from the local community and visiting tourists.
The timing is certainly curious, now that the elections are over. If this bill had been introduced six months ago, Mr. White would not have been unopposed for re-election.
Thank goodness the four-year council term amendment was voted down.
