Hana librarian wins professional honor

Irene Pavao of Hana Public and School Library has received the Sustained Superior Performance Award.

She is a library assistant III and has served more than two decades at the Hana library, including several years as branch manager.

The state library system recently honored its top employees for the year.

Mary Ann Collignon, young adult librarian at Kapolei Public Library, was named the library system's employee of the year.

The Library Development Services Section was the recipient of the system's team of the year award.

County offices to close for meeting

Maui County offices at the Kalana Pakui Building in Wailuku will be closed from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 30, a county news release said.

County employees in the building will be attending a human resources meeting.

The Kalana Pakui Building, located at 250 S. High St., houses offices for the county Development Services Administration and includes the Building Plan Review Section, Building Permit Office, Engineering Section and Subdivision Section.

Flatbread helps firefighter helpers

A portion of pizza sales from 5 to 10 p.m. Nov. 27 at Flatbread Co. in Paia will benefit the Maui Fire Fighters Auxiliary.

Money raised will support the nonprofit organization's annual scholarship program initiated last year.

The evening will include a silent auction featuring gift certificates, a hotel stay, rounds of golf and more.

The organization's mission is to support, encourage, supplement and unite Maui County firefighters and their families.
