The Wailea Wine & Food Festival committee has picked an official artist for its inaugural event coming up Dec. 6 to 9 resort wide, and the artwork she created is the official poster.
"We had gathered a panel of judges and all had the ballots with the parameters of Wailea, food, wine and Maui," says Bud Pikrone, the mastermind of the festival and the general manager of Wailea Community Association.
Taryn Alessandro's mixed media, "Wine & Spirit," was chosen to represent the festival, and her works and the rest of the submissions will be up for auction and proceeds will go to the Maui Culinary Academy," Pikrone adds. "The contest was only open to artists who live in Maui County."

Posters will be given away at the VIP Opening Reception Dec. 6 at Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui and Alessandro will be there, signing. The Kihei artist created the original out of gold leaf, acrylic, aluminum tabs, resin and mylar. "We are bringing back our popular Doodle Art Napkin Show, this time in support of A Keiki's Dream," says South Shore Tiki Lounge owner Alma Tassi. "Doodlers may drop off their entries here or at Maui Thing in Wailuku before the November 30 deadline."
