Jan.12-The second annual Kurt Suzuki Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 12 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku. Instruction will be offered by Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate who has spent six seasons as a major league catcher and is now with the Washington Nationals, as well as from members of All Pono and high school coaches. The free event is limited to 225 participants. Instruction is scheduled for 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for youths ages 8-12, and 1:30-4 p.m. for youths 13-18. Dec. 1-The Lahaina Junior Golf Association has scheduled a fundraiser tournament for Dec. 1 at the Kaanapali Kai Course, with registration scheduled for 11:30 a.m., and a shotgun start one hour later. The entry fee for the four-player shamble is $100 per player, which also pays for greens fees, use of a cart and admission to an awards dinner. * MOTOR SPORTS

Dec. 9-Paradise Speedway Maui in Puunene will host a mud-bog race and a rock crawl on Dec. 9. The mud-bog race will begin at 9 a.m., and the rock crawl will follow. Jan. 5-The Ko'ie'ie Fishpond 5K Fun Run and Kids Mile are scheduled for 8 a.m. on Jan. 5 at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kihei. Proceeds will benefit the fishpond. The registration fee for the 5K is $25 for adults and $20 for youths. The registration fee for the mile, for youths 12 and under, is $15. Dec. 6 and Dec. 8-Lahaina Girls Softball registration for players ages 5-16 is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. on Dec. 6 for returning participants, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 8 for new players. The registration fee for players 8 and under is $35, with a $10 discount for siblings. The registration fee for all other players is $100, with a $5 discount for siblings. Players must be present at the time of registration. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate and health and emergency information. Volunteers for coaching are also being sought.
