Windy enough for getting a look

November 30, 2012
The Maui News
Kihei kite designer Ken Winner inspects one of his prototypes for North Kiteboarding on Thursday afternoon in Kihei. Winner said the light, variable winds were enough to pull the 17-square-meter kite taut but not carry it away. “There is not enough wind for going out on the water, but it’s a good wind for looking at the kite,” he said. On Maui’s north shore Thursday, light winds put the Hookipa Kite Surf Pro World Championship tour event on hold for the day. The event’s holding period runs through Dec. 8. The National Weather Service predicted more variable winds today, with winds of up to 15 mph from the south and southwest on Saturday and Sunday.
