Apparently the writer of a Nov. 27 letter doesn't understand our elective process, railing against the president, Democrats and Hollywood, stating that they are "dark, filthy and despicable people."
In the USA, the majority of the voters decides who wins. No one's "freedom and liberty" went to defeat. To the contrary, freedom was expressed in the choices made by the electorate.
The sentiments expressed are un-American. Yes, we have freedom of speech but that freedom requires judgment, not racist, cultural diatribes that are not based in fact and are, indeed, based in lies.
I am amazed that the respondent could pen such filth and even more amazed that The Maui News would choose to print it. Perhaps it is time that our newspaper reflected the values of this county or is replaced by one that does.
