As I leave Maui, having survived another 400 miles riding my bicycle, I want to take a minute to thank the handful of motorists who still bother to use their turn signals. I have nearly been killed on multiple occasions by the vast majority who don't have the time nor the inclination to signal their directional intentions.
I realize signaling interferes with texting and other online pursuits, and you only have two hands, right?
If we could get the Maui County officials to see bicyclists as part of the solution to island gridlock, then perhaps they would start on a comprehensive plan to make biking a rational reason to visit the Valley Island.
It would be a good start if the Maui police were directed to enforce the laws of the road.
