Road repairs to interrupt traffic

December 6, 2012
The Maui News

There will be temporary lane closures beginning Monday along Upcountry Piilani Highway as road repair work is performed in connection with the Auwahi Wind project, BP Wind Energy and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power announced.

The work will be on the highway between Papaka Road, just after Milepost 16, and the Auwahi Wind project site on Ulupalakua Ranch, near Milepost 20.

The work will last about two weeks. That portion of highway will intermittently be closed for no more than 30 minutes at a time from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Extended delays are possible due to unforeseen circumstances, the news release said.

The highway improvements are being made to restore a portion of the highway that was impacted during construction of the Auwahi Wind project. Electronic notification boards will be in place along Upcountry Piilani Highway in advance of the construction area alerting motorists of the upcoming closures.

"We appreciate the public's patience while these highway improvements are being made," said Lisa Briggs, representative of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power. "Safety continues to be our utmost priority."

Auwahi Wind is a joint development of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power and BP Wind Energy.
