I just received my Maui Electric Co. bill in the mail. The kilowatt per hour rate is the highest I can recall. It was 40.4 cents per KWH, the highest I've seen over the last year.
Gas prices have been dropping for months. If the excuse for higher electric is price of oil, how can it be?
I wonder if we're being penalized for the more prevalent use of solar panels we're seeing everywhere that cuts down on the user's electric bill but now the overhead is being transferred to us full MECO users.
I canvassed several relatives on the Mainland about their electric costs, which run from 9 to 12 cents per KWH. Ours is now 40 per KWH. This is not equitable.
Gasoline here is 20 to 25 percent higher than on the Mainland, so why is electric 300 percent higher?
While I'm ranting and raving, how about the water and sewer bill? I understand the water usage, but the sewer portion of the bill is based upon water consumption. I'm guessing than more than half of my water goes on my lawn and garden and never touches the sewer system. Why am I paying for sewer use that never touches the sewer system? Another gouge by the powers that be.
