Special offering to be taken Sunday
Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will support the efforts of the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem by taking up a special offering during its 8:30 a.m. Sunday service.
Special prayer cards will be given to everyone in attendance.
The group works on behalf of Palestinian children living in the Holy Land who lack education and medical care.

Australian pastor to speak at services
Australian prophetic pastor David McDonald will minister at Grace Church from Sunday through Tuesday, according to an announcement from the church.
The services are at 6:30 p.m.
The church also will be hosting the Global Day of Worship at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Jewish Blues event Thursday
Chabad of Maui will present a night of Jewish Blues beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Maui Mitzvah Center, located at 360 Hoohana St., Suite 209, in Kahului.
Event organizers said people can enjoy the sixth night of Chanukah with a menorah lighting, hot latke bar and live entertainment with Jewish blues artist Saul Kaye.
The night of blues costs $18 for tickets purchased in advance, $25 at the door.

Youth minister to visit Maui
Iao United Church of Christ will welcome Waltrina Middleton to its 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, followed by a potluck lunch to give the South Carolina native a taste of Maui.
Middleton is the minister for Youth Advocacy and Leadership Formation of the United Church of Christ. She will share plans for youth and young adult ministry.
Youth and adults from Maui County first met Middleton at the national meeting of the United Church of Christ in Tampa, Fla., in 2011. Since she was responsible for planning the National Youth Event of the United Church of Christ last summer, 14 youth met her again on the campus of Purdue University for that event.

Church holding Advent services
Emmanuel Lutheran Church will observe Advent on Wednesday evenings through Dec. 19.
The church will host a soup supper at 5:30 p.m. and a worship service an hour later.
The theme for the series of special services will be "Psalms for Advent" and will focus on the expectation and hope of Jesus.

Christmas Choir Cantata Sunday
Kihei Lutheran Church will offer its annual Christmas Choir Cantata on Sunday morning.
The event will be held during the church's morning worship service, which begins at 9.
Titled "How Great Our Joy," the program will include the congregation's 32-voice choir, under the direction of Kathy Krueger, along with the youth of the church.

Missionaries to speak at churches
Philippine missionaries Pastor David Crim and his wife, Cindy, will be on Maui on Sunday morning to share their missionary work in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
They will speak at 10:15 a.m. worship services at Kahului Baptist Church on Puunene Avenue and at 6 p.m. at Valley Isle Fellowship on High Street in Wailuku.
The Crims have been in the Philippines in the past two years as missionary workers for Two-Thirds World Network, a Christian-based organization with its primary mission to share the Gospel and good news of Christ.
In addition to their missionary work in the Philippines, they have done such work in South Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia. They provide training in discipleship, evangelism and sharing the love of Christ in a practical way.
Two-Thirds World Network has been involved in providing assistance to flood victims, medical missions, school supplies and vacation Bible schools.

Church to hold special services
St. Joseph Church will hold services for the immaculate conception of the virgin Mary, which is a holy day of obligation, at 7 p.m. today and 7 a.m. Saturday.
The church will also have an Advent penance service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chanukah party to be held Sunday
The Jewish Congregation of Maui will host its annual Community Chanukah Party from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Beit Shalom Synagogue in Kihei.
The event will feature a candle-lighting ceremony, latkes, sufaganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts) games and prizes. Disc jockey Dan Weisman will provide guests with music and entertainment. Door prizes and children's gift bags will be presented, and Judaica Store items will be available for purchase.
The synagogue is at 634 Alulike St.
