Injuries after 20-foot fall
A 22-year-old woman was injured after falling down a 20-foot cliff in the Bamboo Forest trail area in East Maui on Friday afternoon and had to be flown to safety by fire rescue crews.
The fall occurred at the second pond, about 20 minutes into the trail, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
KIRK KEAHI JR., arrested on a robbery charge
Receiving the call at about 4 p.m., firefighters aboard the Fire Department's Air One helicopter flew in to the fall site and found the woman in stable condition with possible fractures to her shoulder, leg and face.
She was packaged up with full C-spine precautions and flown to a land zone above Hana Highway. She was transferred to medics, who transported her to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
The place of residence of the fall victim was not available.
High surf expected today
The National Weather Service issued a high-surf advisory Friday for the north-facing shores of Maui and Molokai from 6 a.m. today to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Surf was forecast to reach 14 to 18 feet high.
Beachgoers should stay out of the water and well away from the dangerous shore break. Strong rip currents often accompany large surf.

Man arrested for robbery
A 22-year-old Waikapu man was arrested on a robbery charge for punching another man while stealing his prescription medication Wednesday, police said.
Kirk Keahi Jr. was released Thursday after posting $20,000 bail on a second-degree robbery charge.
The robbery occurred at 4:50 p.m. at a residence on North Market Street in Wailuku, said Maui police spokesman Lt. Wayne Ibarra. He reported that Keahi went to the residence and took the medication out of the hands of the victim, punching him when he tried to grab back the stolen medication, according to witnesses.
Keahi fled but was located at 5:02 p.m. in the parking lot of nearby Kahekili Terrace housing, Ibarra said. Keahi was identified by the victim and witnesses. Keahi agreed to a search, and police recovered the stolen medication, Ibarra said.
Keahi is scheduled to appear at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 in Wailuku District Court.
