Macario Pascual will be the arist in residence at the Village Galleries in The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua from Sunday to Tuesday.
"All are welcome to join us for the festive artist's reception and exhibition of his new works from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday," says
Village Galleries owner Anne KenKnight.
“Mount Ball, Lahainaluna” in oil by Macario Pascual.
"The subject matter and the use of light are both important elements in my artwork," writes Pascual in a statement on his website.
"Many of my paintings are drawn from personal experiences as well as history. For years now, I've taken a special interest in the immigrants to Hawaii's plantations, depicting their work and life. By letting these ideas evolve into new works, I hope to capture the essence of the plantations in Hawaii."

There is also a Village Gallery at 120 Dickenson St., Lahaina. Artist Tracy Dudley will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 21.
You may view Dudley's new exhibition entitled "Momentary or Partial View . . . A Glimpse" now through Dec. 27.
The cool and compelling large-scale paintings are based on countless hours the artist has spent observing the patterns and textures of the Hawaiian waters from her outrigger canoe or paddleboard.
"Combining closeup views as well as unexpected viewpoints, this exhibition exposes the often overlooked simple beauty and patterns of nature," says KenKnight.
According to her biography, Dudley graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., in 1986 with an art degree.
During the spring of 1988, she made her first visit to Maui leaving the crowds and the heat of South Florida, where she had lived for 28 years. Within a few weeks of her "vacation," she knew Maui would be her new home.
Living on Maui's north shore, she explores the rugged landscapes with her paintbrush and mountain bike. Known primarily for watercolor portraits and large-scale landscapes, Dudley also works with acrylics and printmaking. For more details, call 661-4402.
