Hawaii athletes react to death of Sen. Inouye

Current and former athletes with Hawaii connections were among those expressing sadness and respect after Sen. Daniel Inouye died Monday at age 88.

"Today, Hawaii lost a very loving and respected man...Aloha Senator Daniel Inouye u will be missed by all!" tweeted Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino, a St. Anthony High School graduate.

Olympic gold-medal decathlete Bryan Clay of Oahu noted Inouye's service with the Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, writing on Twitter: "Praying for the Inouye family today w/ the passing of US Senator Daniel K. Inouye, WW II Vet, Medal of Honor recipient."

Former University of Hawaii and NFL placekicker Jason Elam tweeted:?"From my days in Hawaii I know the beloved Senator Inouye will be missed."
