As a nation, we are wracked with grief by the shootings at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn.
So, the question becomes: What can we do to help? Debbie Okada of Marriott's Maui Ocean Club sent us a note with an answer.
"Even though I have been on Maui for 30-plus years, I was born and raised in Brookfield Conn., a small town right next to Newtown and personally know of this small community.
"They are a small close-knit community and this has shocked all in the area.
"If anyone on Maui wants to donate to the Support Fund for the victims, donations are being accepted by the United Way of Western Connecticut via their website at unwesternct.org or by check to: Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main St., Newtown, Conn. 06470."
