Maui tied for third with Alaska cruises in the top domestic destinations category for 2013 in the Travel Leaders Group Travel Trends Survey.
This survey was based on actual booking data and was conducted by Travel Leaders Group from Nov. 19 to Sunday. The data includes responses from 1,045 U.S.-based travel agency owners, managers and travel agents from the flagship Travel Leaders brand, along with those affiliated with Travel Leaders Group's Luxury Travel Network, Nexion, Results! Travel, Travel Leaders Corporate, Tzell Travel Group and Vacation.com units.
Maui was ranked as a top domestic destination by 40 percent of those in the survey. Agents were asked to name up to five top destinations they're already booking for 2013, a news release about the survey said.
The Valley Isle also finished third in the survey for the current year.
Other Hawaii destinations in the survey were Honolulu, sixth with 27.3 percent; and Hawaii cruises, 12th at 9.9 percent.
Orlando was first in domestic locations at 44.7 percent of agents surveyed, followed by Las Vegas at 44.1 percent.
The top international destination was Caribbean cruises with 52.3 percent, followed by Cancun cruises with 42.4 percent.
