1912 - Yesterday there was a joyous time down at Spreckelsville and Puunene schools. The good time was made possible through the donations of good hearted people. Mr. W. F. Crockett acted as Santa Claus, and he carried out his part to perfection.

1937 - The Lanai Intermediate School, which has been located on the hill above Lanai City, where extreme cold and strong winds have made conditions unsatisfactory, is being moved to the center of the community. The new site is the old vegetable garden about 200 yards below Yet Lung's Lanai Store.

1962 - More than 200 guests are expected to attend the three-day grand opening festivities of the Royal Lahaina Beach Hotel, 18-hole golf course and cottage colony at Kaanapali this weekend. The dedication ceremonies will start at about 5:40 p.m.

1987 - With only days until Christmas, Santa Claus is making his final rounds. Santa put on his Hawaiian garb and traded in his reindeer for a canoe yesterday for an appearance in Wailea.

2002 - As expected, Hawaii's special congressional election drew very few voters to the polls. The winner of the special election will serve the remaining five weeks of U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink's term in the 107th Congress.
