1937 - The first full-length dramatic presentation by television was witnessed by Mr. and Mrs. George Tam who were guests of the Radio Corporation of America last week at Radio City. From the NBC television studios at Radio City, a Sherlock Holmes mystery was sent to the top of the Empire State building.

50 Years Ago

1962 - Maui Metal Company crewmen will begin demolishing the Kahului Theater this week. Kahului Theater is a landmark and one of the last major pre-New Town development buildings still standing. The theater was officially opened in 1918.

25 Years Ago

1987 - Seventy Molokai residents have been hired to work at The Westin Maui resort. They are expected to start work Tuesday, taking a ferry across the channel to West Maui. Sea Link will allow the workers to make the daily round trip for between $4 and $5.

2002 - Linda Lingle becomes Hawaii's highest-ranking Republican in 40 years today, taking over as the state's sixth elected and first female governor. Gov. Ben Cayetano said it may mark the end of an era in which Democrats dominate island politics.
