Jan. 12-The second annual Kurt Suzuki Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 12 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku. Instruction will be offered by Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate who has spent six seasons as a major league catcher and is now with the Washington Nationals, as well as from high school coaches and members of All Pono. The free event is limited to 225 participants. Instruction is scheduled for 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for youths ages 8-12, and 1:30-4 p.m. for youths 13-18. Thursday-Jan. 7-Volunteers are sought to work Thursday through Jan. 7 at The Plantation Course in Kapalua during the PGA Tour's Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Depending on how many shifts are worked, volunteers can receive shirts, weekly passes to the event and golf at the Bay Course. Saturday-The Hyundai Hope On Wheels 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Whalers Village in Kaanapali. Registration can be completed at hyundairun4hope.org. The entry fee is $10 for youths 12 and under, and $35 for all others. The fee will also pay for a T-shirt, food and refreshments after the race and a finisher's medal. Proceeds will benefit cancer patients at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.

Saturday-The Ko'ie'ie Fishpond 5K Fun Run and Kids Mile are scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kihei. Proceeds will benefit the fishpond. The registration fee for the 5K is $25 for adults and $20 for youths. The registration fee for the mile, for youths 12 and under, is $15. Jan. 20-The Maui Oceanfront Marathon starts at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, with a course beginning in Wailea, at Wailea Ike Drive, and concluding in Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina. As early start is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. The half-marathon starts at 6:30 a.m., the 15-kilometer run at 7:20 a.m. and the 5K at 8:20 a.m. Event registration and number pick-up is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Jan. 18 in Kihei at 2480 S. Kihei Road, No. 28, and for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina. Information is available at mauioceanfrontmarathon.com. Contact: 874-5588
