Talk to focus on planning for 2013
Dr. Robert Santry, chief executive officer of Master Life Coach Wellness Associates, will be the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Maui meeting at noon Thursday at the Hideaway Restaurant in Kahului.
His presentation is called "Getting ready for the year 2013." The meeting is open to the public and visitors are welcome. Lunch is $12.

Makawao school to recycle holiday trees
Makawao Elementary School will hold its annual Christmas tree recycling drop-off event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the school, located off Baldwin Avenue and Ukiu Road.
A $5 donation is requested. A Cut Above Tree and Yard Service has volunteered to chip the trees.

Haiti experience to be discussed Jan. 10
Paul Sutherland will share details about the experience he and his wife had working on a water filtration project in Haiti with the Rotary Club of Maui at noon Jan. 10.
Sutherland is the chairman of the board of directors of the Utopia Foundation, and the president and chief investment manager of Financial & Investment Management Group. He also is a Rotarian and was the executive producer of the inaugural TEDxMaui.
The meeting be at the Class Act Restaurant at University of Hawaii Maui College. Cost is $20. The public is welcome.

East Maui Animal Refuge wins $1,000
The East Maui Animal Refuge in Haiku won $1,000 as part of the Animal Rescue Site's 2012 $300,000 Challenge in conjunction with petfinder.com.
EMAR received the most votes in the state during the fourth round of the contest.
To be eligible for awards, shelters and rescue groups have to be members of Petfinder. Prizes range from $1,000 to $5,000 in various categories. A complete list of all previous winners can be found at www.theanimalrescuesite.com.
"This program, sponsored since 2008 by The Animal Rescue Site, has been a wonderful opportunity for Petfinder members of all sizes to let their fans show their support," said Lisa Robinson, Director of the Petfinder.com Foundation.
