Jan. 12-The second annual Kurt Suzuki Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 12 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku. Instruction will be offered by Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate who has spent six seasons as a major league catcher and is now with the Washington Nationals, as well as from high school coaches and members of All Pono. The free event is limited to 225 participants. Instruction is scheduled for 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for youths ages 8-12, and 1:30-4 p.m. for youths 13-18. March 30-The Pharmacy Group scholarship golf tournament is scheduled for March 30 at The King Kamehameha Golf Club in Wailuku, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $175 per person. Jan. 20-The Maui Oceanfront Marathon starts at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 20, with a course beginning in Wailea, at Wailea Ike Drive, and concluding in Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina. As early start is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. The half-marathon starts at 6:30 a.m., the 15-kilometer run at 7:20 a.m. and the 5K at 8:20 a.m. Event registration and number pick-up is scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Jan. 18 in Kihei at 2480 S. Feb. 2-The Pacific Whale Foundation's Run and Walk for the Whales is scheduled for Feb. 2. The event will have courses covering multiple distances, runs and walks at three distances - half-marathon as well as 10 and 5 kilometers - and a 2K youth run. The courses for all distances begin and end at Makena Beach & Golf Resort. Registration can be completed online at flpregister.com/21 until 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 30. The fees for foundation members are $40 for the half marathon, $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K and $20 for the 2K. The fees for nonmembers are $5 more. Race-day registration will cost an additional $5. The entry fee also pays for a shirt, postrace breakfast and eligibility for prizes.
