The Community Emergency Response Team will offer a free presentation on how to prepare for an unexpected disaster at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 in the Adult Reading Section of the Makawao Public Library.
During a disaster, the number and scope of incidents increases dramatically and professional responders may not be immediately available in all areas. Emergency response team members render critical support to professional responders by providing immediate assistance to victims at a disaster site.
Nancy Kala, Response Team Upcountry Branch director, will explain potential hazards that may occur and discuss basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.
Participants will learn how to be prepared to take care of themselves and their family and how to respond to a disaster.
The 45-minute program is suitable for ages 12 and older.
Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
The library is at 1159 Makawao Ave.
