Seabury secures girls, mixed titles; Kamehameha clinches boys crown

The Maui Interscholastic League championships in all three divisions of canoe paddling were sewn up on Saturday at Ka Lae Pohaku in Kihei, with Seabury Hall claiming the girls and mixed titles, and Kamehameha Maui clinching first place in the boys competition.

The Seabury girls crew of Kamaile Lee, Bela Hamilton, Alexis Smith, Mikaela McDaniel, Kaile Aina Sutherland and Kaulu Luuwai won MIL regatta No. 3 in 4 minutes, 12.31 seconds - Kamehameha was second in 4:23.56.

Luuwai, Lee and Hamilton teamed with Adam Ferrier, Mogul Luuwai and Alden Simmer to keep the Spartans unbeaten in mixed competition. Their time of 3:57.02 was 1.63 seconds better than the Warriors.

Bryce Takabayashi, Maleko Lorenzo, Kauanoe Vanderpoel, Elijah Won, Dustin Tacdol and Kupaa Luat-Hueu gave Kamehameha the top spot in the boys race, in 3.43.34. Seabury (3:46.55) was the runner-up.

The fourth regatta of the season is scheduled for next Saturday at Hanaka'o'o (Canoe) Beach Park in Lahaina.
